Tutoring and Mentoring

Lucy Ashe trained at The Royal Ballet School before gaining a scholarship to attend Charterhouse School where she took her A Levels. She studied English Literature at St Hugh’s College, Oxford University and has an MA Oxon in English Literature and Language. After graduation, she obtained a PGCE teaching qualification (with QTS) and became an English teacher. After four years teaching English at Stowe School, she moved to Harrow School, London. She taught English and Drama at Harrow School for nine years and was the Head of English and Senior Head of Subjects, before moving to New York City in the summer of 2023. She works as a full-time novelist of historical fiction, and can offer tutoring and mentoring to children and adults, online only.

Lucy has thirteen years of senior school teaching experience. While Head of English at Harrow School, she wrote and assessed the annual English entrance tests, as well as conducting admissions interviews. She has taught IGCSE English Language, IGSCE English Literature, A Level English Literature, and A Level Theatre Studies. When leading the English Department at Harrow School, the majority of her A Level students achieved A* and A grades. She is experienced with supporting, grading, and moderating coursework essays, and encourages her students to read widely and develop their research and writing skills. She is also an examiner for the OCR English Literature A Level. Lucy has guided many students in their University applications and her students have gone on to study at top Universities in the UK and US, including, amongst many others, Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Columbia, and Julliard.

Mentoring for Writers

Lucy can offer a package tailored to your needs, whether that be advice on your agent submission package, editorial guidance on your novel, or general mentoring for a writing project. Lucy has experience of writing to agents, entering writing competitions, and navigating the road to publication, and can offer expert advice on how to make the most of each step along the journey to becoming a published writer.
